Professor Christoph Bode is Chairman of Internal Medicine and Director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology I at the Heart Center, University of Freiburg, as well as Director of Medical Intensive Care at the University Clinic in Freiburg, Germany. He is a graduate of the Medical School at the University of Cologne, Germany, where he also completed his first research fellowship at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry. Following several years at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, he returned to the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he eventually became Professor of Medicine, before accepting his current position as Chairman of Medicine at the University of Freiburg.
Professor Bode is an interventional cardiologist with a special interest in antithrombotic therapy in cardiovascular diseases. He has devoted much of his research to basic science and holds several patents in molecular targeting for diagnostic, therapeutic or imaging purposes. He has received numerous honors and awards, and his advice is sought by funding and government agencies. He is a former President of the Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research, former Chairman of the Assembly of International Governors of the American College of Cardiology and was European Editor of Circulation.
Professor Bode has published several hundred peer-reviewed articles in renowned journals including Science, Nature Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Circulation and European Heart Journal.
